The Association of Free
Lutheran Congregations was organized in October,
1962. Most of the organizers were from the former
Lutheran Free Church. The Lutheran Free Church
was to become part of the ALC in the spring of
1963.
There were five principle
reasons given at the organizational conference
for the formation of the Association. The
Association seeks, above all, to be a Spiritual
movement that:
1: Recognizes the Bible as
being inerrant and the authority in all areas of
life.
2: Recognizes that the teaching
and preaching of God's Word is the main task of
the Church. The Word of God is to be taught and
preached in such a way that the saints are built
up in the faith and unbelievers see their need
for salvation.
3: Believes that the
congregation is the right form of the Kingdom of
God on earth, with no authority over it but the
Word and Spirit of God.
4: Believes that Christian
unity is a Spiritual concept and not a man-made
organization of body such as the World Council of
Churches, the National Council of Churches, etc.
5. Believes that Christians are
to be different from unbelievers and are to be a
salt and light in the world (pietism). This
difference is to be reflected also in the work of
the Christian congregations and the institutions
of the Church.
